I was into the modern-day stuff, especially with the one and only Margaret Dumont as Dale's aunt, but then it went into a quasi-flashback with Dale as her own grandmother, and Gabby grizzled as ever, and that was less interesting, although still watchable.  Frank McDonald directed.

This has comparatively sharp writing and direction (the latter by John English) and I was even thinking about a B-, but I didn't like the devolution of Dale's character from witty, sexy, brave career gal (photojournalist) to ineffectual sap who falls for the still pretty bland Roy (as Roy Rogers).

Marc Lawrence would still be playing villains decades later, including in "my" movies Foul Play and Super Fuzz, although it's The Man with the Golden Gun that was his previous flick on this project.

This isn't bad for a Western, with humor (including a W.C. Fields-like scene of a dentist and a female patient) and somewhat interesting characters.  I didn't want to keep going, but I've certainly watched more unpleasant first quarter-hours lately.  This is based on the W.R. Burnett novel and directed by Raoul Walsh.
