I've watched this once before but I just can't get into it.  The best part is the sympathetic cop played by Edward Platt, and that feels wrong somehow.  Nicholas Ray directed and co-wrote.

While the acting was good of course, I didn't really want to watch Robert Mitchum stalk Gregory Peck and Peck's family.  This is based on the book by John D. MacDonald and directed by J. Lee Thompson.
