While there were things I liked about this, especially the look of it, it is marred by sometimes slow plotting, unnecessary sexism, and the wrong kind of cheesiness.  This is based on the H.G. Wells novel and directed by George Pal.

While I suppose this was somewhat prescient about a "world war" in 1940, and I do like the look of the movie, especially the sets, I found the writing (apparently by H.G. Wells, based on his novel) and acting melodramatic.  William Cameron Menzies directed.
