I like the jazzy score and it's always nice to see Arnold Stang, but I didn't care about Frank as "Frankie" or his clingy wheelchair-bound wife.  This is based on the Nelson Algren novel and directed by Otto Preminger.

An African-American take on the Bizet opera that I know mostly through Gilligan's Island.  Otto Preminger directed.  Note that this earns Harry Belafonte (27 here) the Longevity Prize for now, since he has a cameo in BlacKKKlansman 64 years later!

I wasn't drawn in enough to wait for last-billed Jim Backus.  Ben Hecht was apparently uncredited for the screenplay.  Preminger directed this and it was released about five months before the deservedly more famous The Moon Is Blue.
