Not bad for what it is, but Brando honestly doesn't have much charisma or energy here. Edward Dmytryk directed, thirteen years after Back to Bataan. This is based on the novel by Irwin Shaw.
I actually never saw this movie at the time or until today, but some of it got into the zeitgeist, so the first quarter hour (without Reeve) seemed oddly familiar. Mario Puzo and Tom Mankiewicz contributed to the script, while the versatile Richard Donner directed.
A miscast Brando provides the main entertainment in this version, based on the novel by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. Lewis Milestone and Carol Reed co-directed.
Very talky, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but the topics aren't that interesting and at times Brando's accent is unintelligible. This is based on the Werner Jörg Lüddecke novel and directed by Bernhard Wicki.
