OK, so here's the thing.  I saw this (on VHS) two or three years after it came out, and I found some parts funny and some parts disgusting, but the best part was undoubtedly the dazzling "Every Sperm Is Sacred" segment (including the Protestant couple across the way).  It remains both brilliant satire and a catchy musical number.  But the rest of the first half hour I watched today just didn't click with me.  And I really didn't want to reexperience the restaurant scene again.

The brothers (Damon and Ledger) pretend to be witch-hunters, when I'd rather see them travel around gathering stories and writing them down.  Terry Gilliam directed but this isn't even on the level of Brazil.

While the look of this movie is impressive, I didn't think there was much of a human element in the first quarter hour, although perhaps that was deliberate.  Terry Gilliam directed and co-wrote.
