I didn't dislike this as much as I expected, mostly because in the first quarter hour it was verging towards self-parody* that resembled the deliberate comedy Love at Stake (1988).  M. Night Shyamalan wrote and directed of course.

*Including another reminder that I think William Hurt is a terrible actor.

I liked this movie at the time, although not as much as the Natalie Babbitt book (reviewed here https://rereadingeverybookiown.blogspot.com/search?q=tuck).  This time, the changes from the book all served to weaken the story (and I only watched the first quarter hour).  Jay Russell directed.

While this definitely isn't my kind of movie, I did like the quasi-1940sness, like with the dialogue.  It might've even been a C- or C if less violent, although I know that's too much to ask.  Alex Proyas directed and co-wrote, four years after The Crow.

I couldn't get into this '80s film noir, partly although not entirely due to William Hurt's mustache.  It felt like a symbol of how the movie wasn't what it thought it was, in this case, sexy or suspenseful, at least in the first quarter-hour.  Still, there's some curiosity value and it does have a pre-Cheers Ted Danson in glasses.  Lawrence Kasdan wrote and directed.
