I liked the book, written by Nicola Yoon, which I read a couple years ago, and this feels like a faithful adaptation, even if the character of Rosa is much more of a cipher. (You can tell this from the deleted scenes.) You definitely have to take a leap of willing suspension of disbelief to enjoy this, but I thought the romance was sweet and the design elements (including the visualizations of Maddy's architectural models) well done. Anika Noni Rose, who was the voice of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, plays the controlling mother in this modern retelling of Rapunzel. Stella Meghie directed.
