First of all, since I watched only the first quarter-hour, I can't really judge this as a comedy or an Eddie Murphy debut. I will say that what I saw was racism, sexism, and violence, and the only thing marginally entertaining was the glimpse of the Space Kid (1966) cartoon. I didn't care about the criminals or the cops, although it's always nice to see San Francisco on film, but I'd rather watch The Streets of San Francisco, and that's not saying much. Walter Hill directed and co-wrote.
