Marcello Mastroianni stars as I guess the Fellini surrogate, in this very famous film, co-written by Ennio Flaiano.  The opening scene has a man suffocating in a car, while others look on.  It improves from that, somewhat, but not enough for me to stick with it.  And, yes, I suppose the critic character is supposed to anticipate our criticisms, but I don't care if it's "philosophical."  I want to be entertained primarily, and pseudo-intellectualism isn't entertaining.  I gave up after (my self-imposed) minimum requirement of a quarter hour.
