I've never seen the first movie, although at the time I kept meaning to, but I have read the Dick King-Smith children's book, and this movie, which includes a farmer's wife falsely accused of drug smuggling, seems literally and figuratively far afield from the original idea of a "sheep-pig." Not that this is bad, but I'm shocked that Gene Siskel chose it as the best movie of the year.
George Miller directed and co-wrote.
